Four Watercolor-and-Sumi-on-Crumpled-Masa-Paper Paintings

These four paintings use crumpled Masa paper, which is sized (to give the paper strength, and help to keep it from falling apart when wet). When it's crumpled, the sizing on the paper has broken. When dampened, the paper can be smoothed out again to lie flat. Then watercolor and sumi ink is applied. The ink tends to be attracted to the cracks in the sizing, very much like dye does with the cracked wax of batik.
